ADVANCED SUSPENSION DESIGN OFF-ROAD EXPO

OFFICIAL RULES

TIME LIMIT

Time starts once any part of the team enters the course. Time will stop once any part of the vehicle breaks the finish plane. If the vehicle hits a finish gate (cone) ten points will be added (see gates scoring).

REVERSAL

One point will be issued for a purposeful reversal. A purposeful reversal or back-up is considered when a driver puts the vehicle in reverse or neutral and backs or pushes in the clutch and rolls back, etc. A back is not counted when the obstacle pushes the vehicle back. A reverse in an attempt to save a rollover is considered an infraction and will receive a backing point.

GATES OR BOUNDARY MARKERS

Each obstacle is marked with cones or boundary markers. 10 penalty points will be issued for going “out of bounds”. A cone does not have to fall to be counted, it only needs to be touched at any point, including its base. Cones that fall due to exhaust, wind or unstable rocks will not count as a touched gate. While attempting to clear a gate, a vehicle may not “float” a tire over a cone. Any tire “floating” over the intended vertical plane of the intended location of that cone, even without touching the cone, will be penalized an “out of bounds” penalty.

The course is designed to be driven between the cones. If, while attempting a gate the vehicle is so far off-line that at least 3 tires do not place/travel between the set of cones, they will be declared “off course” and will receive 40 points. Any vehicle bypassing a gate entirely, intentionally or not, will be declared “off course” and receive 40 points.

ROCK STACKING

To ensure fairness, teams are not allowed to “pre-set” rocks. Outside help in rock stacking will not be allowed. One of the largest risks to a spotter is stacking rocks near a moving vehicle. The vehicle must be at a full stop during rock stacking. If this rule is violated, a 10-point penalty will be assessed.

When a team has completed the course, they will be given 3 minutes to “unstack” the course. Any rocks moved, must be returned as close as possible to their original placement. A 10-point penalty will be assessed for failure to “unstack” rocks. Any rocks moved without “placement” i.e., rolled by tire movement, may remain in place.

SPOTTER MANIPULATION

The vehicle must be completely stopped (including tire movement) prior to spotters touching the vehicle or reaching into the passenger compartment.

SPOTTER STRAP

A team may use a spotter strap. Spotter straps must be approved at tech inspection.

WINCHING

If the team deems it necessary to winch, a winch-line weight bag must be used on any steel cable. Any winching without a weight bag will be assessed 10 points.

SPORTSMANSHIP

During the event, proper sportsmanship is required. If a competitor or team member promotes un-sportsman like conduct, is rude or abusive to officials, other teams or spectators, they and/or the entire team may be disqualified from the current event and/or future events. Our goal is to promote a respectable sport and promote sponsoring companies in a professional light. Therefore un-sportsman like conduct will not be tolerated.

PROTEST OF JUDGES RULING

Judges have the final say in all cases!

SAFETY

The judge has the right, but not the responsibility to advise spotters and drivers of unsafe acts. Any act deemed unsafe by a judge is to immediately be discontinued. Failure to comply can result in an immediate team “point out”.

DRUGS/ALCOHOL

Drugs and alcohol will not be permitted in any degree during the event.

SCORING

Points will be tallied at the end of the run. The team with the least points will be declared the winner. In case of a tie in points, the actual time to complete the course will determine the winner. Fastest time will be the tie breaker.
